Defensive Pistol Fundamentals Phase I was built for responsible citizens who don’t just want a permit… They want the skills, mindset, and confidence to actually defend themselves and their family.
This is a full day training program that goes far beyond minimum state requirements- while still providing everything you need to obtain a South Carolina Concealed Carry Permit (CWP) for those that choose.

Students will gain the knowledge and abilities for the following:
- Increase overall proficiency with your handgun and gear.
- Apply concealment techniques
- Increase ability to place multiple shots on target
- Understand the difference between marksmanship and defensive shooting fundamentals.
- Managing malfunctions and stoppages
- Basic fundamentals of the use of cover.
Required gear for the course:
- Handgun of a common caliber that the operator can easily control (no
micro size handguns, 22 caliber firearms, magnum calibers, or revolvers) - Minimum 250 rounds. If you would like a higher round count you can bring more ammo as well.
- Minimum of 2-3 magazines or speed loaders per handgun
- Magazine carriers for your belt are highly recommended
- A sturdy belt (NO canvas or flimsy belts)
- Safety glasses and hearing protection
- Strong Side OWB (outside the waistband) holster or IWB (inside the waistband) holster
- Kydex or Leather, the holster must be stiff and must have full cover over the trigger. (NO Black Hawk or Serpa Style Holsters with a button release trigger lock, FOBUS or paddle style holsters, shoulder holsters or nylon holsters. If you are
unsure, you should be able to holster and unholster without theuse of your support hand.) - Weather-appropriate attire (NO open toed shoes. Tennis shoes or hiking shoes are recommended, they may get dirty. NO Sleeveless shirts or low cut shirts. Hats are also recommended for your safety)
- Battle belt set ups are approved for this course, however this course is geared towards everyday open and concealed carry.
